Walter Cronkite
Unbeknown-st to many, Walter Cronkite is actually a giant. He is over 20 feet tall. CBS had a specially made studio using clever optical illusions to make him appear in similar size to the other news casters.
His office and desk furniture were fabricated at large size specially for Cronkite.
Thanks to his fame, Cronkite was able to have companies, including Disney, donate large office equipment for his purposes at NBC. During interviews he was made to stand several yards behind anyone on screen with him to properly create the illusion of a normal stature. A larger microphone was specially made so that his gigantic hands wouldn’t dwarf normal handheld microphones.He received such notoriety on camera that no one wanted to out him as an over sized individual and except for a few remarks about him being ‘a giant among men’, his secret was kept well until his recent death.
His untimely death at the age of 93 was caused by the heart problems he had due to his enormous size.
